Our Founder’s Background
In the ’90s, Jennifer Handshew, a college student, started reviewing restaurants for the UCSB Nexus. This interest led her to the kitchen, where she worked as a pastry chef assistant at Montecito Confections, creating wedding cakes and desserts for a celebrity clientele. Her journey then took her back to writing. After college, she worked in tech PR, and wrote restaurant reviews for the LA Times San Fernando Valley edition.
As Jennifer’s PR and marketing career evolved, she started working with independent and chain restaurants in the Los Angeles area to increase seat count, change their image, and manage their reputations using creative PR and marketing campaigns. Additionally, Jennifer worked to secure needed food and cooking equipment sponsorships for the Emmy-award-winning PBS kitchen reality show, The Kitchens of Biro. At the same time, she provided PR support for the Cordon Bleu Institute’s Pasadena location.
Combined with her extensive tech experience, she works at the intersection of food and technology.
